We work for the benefit of the children at Watanoha Elementary School
in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture. The school suffered heavy damage in
the Tohoku Earthquake. Our chief work is spreading smiles at Watanoha
by working together with the children to make a place to play, and by
playing together with them. As a part of this activity, we made some
artworks from the fragments (wreckage) of the town that were washed
into the playground at Watanoha Elementary School. The children freely
assembled these “fragments of the town,” and created artworks however
they liked. The removal of the wreckage is expected to be massively
expensive, but the artwork that the children made is no longer
wreckage - it has been reborn as something precious. The “recovery”
artworks that the children made will bring hope and smiles all over Japan.
